Mariam Sitchinava is a 25-year-old freelance film photographer based in Tbilisi (Georgia). Mariam started shooting, without any formal education, in 2009. After 8 months of shooting she got her first commercial project. She has worked with fashion labels such as Vaudeville & Burlesque and Urban Outfitters.
As you can see above her work is mesmerizing. She captures woman in beautiful places, nature is a relevant element in her work, adding a bucolic and melancholic vibe to the picture, something that reminds me of the way Tarkovsky used to shoot woman in his films.
She's been too kind to answer some questions for the blog,
so here there is my interview with Mariam:
♦ When did you start taking photos? // ¿Cuándo empezaste a hacer fotos?
About 3-4 years ago. // Hace tres o cuatro años.
♦ Your work features beautiful women and has a great feminine style. What do you want to manifest with your pictures?
The emotion, the positive feelings, the beautifulness of women.
♦ What inspires you? Which photographers have influenced you? // ¿Qué te inspira? ¿Qué fotógrafos te han influenciado?
For me anything can be inspirational. It's hard to say, because there are photos of various photographers that influenced me.
♦ What camera are you using? You work with film and I love that. What do you think of film vs digital? // ¿Qué cámara utilizas? Trabajas con película y eso me encanta. ¿Qué piensas de film vs digital?
Mainly I'm using soviet film cameras. Digital never would be the same as film.
♦ Could you tell us about the experience of working for fashion brands like Vaudeville & Burlesque and Urban Outfitters?
It was a very good experience for me, we've worked very good. They gave me freedom of shooting and as an artist I value it most.
♦ What projects do you have? // ¿Qué proyectos tienes?
I want to tell you about my project called Illusory. It's an experimental project between me and film photographers around the world. We shoot films without exposing and then exchange to do double exposure. Results are amazing.
♦ Do you have any tips for new photographers? // ¿Algún consejo para los fotógrafos principiantes?
They just need to be themselves. They should think outside of any frame or box and expresses their emotions.

These are gorgeous, very inspirational too. Thank you for sharing them!
My god, I love these shots. Mariam is such a talent, and yes, they definitely evoke a Tarkovsky vibe (more behind the back shots!). The 18th shot embedded (of the cold thighs) is my favorite. It's so mysterious and sensual and perfect. I love that Mariam shoots on film. Film has a texture that digital simply cannot replicate, so I was glad to see her articulate that as well.
GREAT post.
Me ha encantado el post. Las fotografías son delicadas, sencillas pero preciosas :)
