Among Dreams: Mafalda Silva

Mafalda Silva is the photographer behind all these beautiful photos. She's from Portugal but lives in London at the moment - where she studied photography - with her boyfriend Fredrik and her cat Kenneth (that you can see in the pics above). When Mafalda turned 15, she got her first SLR and she's been taking photographs ever since. The equipment she uses the most is her Yashica MF 35, Olympus Mju II and Canon SLR, but she always use film. Her favorite photographers are the same as mine: William Eggleston, Guy Bourdin, Lina Scheynius, Margaret Durow, Juergen Teller and Lukasz Wierzbowski. And about her inspiration, she says: "I can be inspired by anything really, my friends, my cat, my boyfriend, anything... My photos are very personal, like a visual diary so they allow me to remember little details of my everyday life."

You can find all her work in here:

... Silva's photography and these lovely songs are the perfect combination for stay-home cold autumn days:

ps: thanks to Esther for the Patrick Watson video and The Acorn's song recommendation.

Blue Valentine (2010)

"Maybe I've seen too many movies, you know, love at first sight. What do you think about love at first sight? You think you can love somebody just by looking at them? But the thing is man, I felt like I knew her, you ever get that feeling? She just seems different, you know? I don't know, I just got a feeling about her. You know when a song comes on and you just gotta dance?"
"In my experience, the prettier a girl is, the more nuts she is, which makes you insane."
"I feel like men are more romantic than women. When we get married we marry, like, one girl, 'cause we're resistant the whole way until we meet one girl and we think I'd be an idiot if I didn't marry this girl she's so great. But it seems like girls get to a place where they just kinda pick the best option... 'Oh he's got a good job.' I mean they spend their whole life looking for Prince Charming and then they marry the guy who's got a good job and is gonna stick around."
"You made a promise to me, you said for better or for worse, you said that, you said it. It was a promise. Now this is my worse, ok this is my worse. But I'm gonna get better. You just gotta give me a chance to get better."

- Blue Valentine (2010) by Derek Cianfrance

"Blue Valentine", named after the Tom Waits album, it's Derek Cianfrance's film debut, a look at the past and present of a couple, trying to remember what went wrong. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams give us two heartbreakingly truthful performances, that led them to multiple nominations for their tour-de-force portrayal of a husband and wife in this touching drama. The excellence of the film also lies in a great script, the powerful and gorgeous photography, and the beautiful soundtrack by Grizzly Bear, featuring the multi-talented Ryan Gosling too.

"Baby, I've got silver and I've got gold, but when push comes to shove,
this is getting old."

True Romance

Every ends has a start just like a dream come true...
Trust love will come down on earth and save us all... love is all I've got
Tell me you're here to stay 24 hours a day, take my pain away.
Won't you come along to be my friend?
It won't be long till you'll find the feeling inside you.
Cast away, from the train. Walk away, from the flame.
Set fire to the night, see ashes fall.
We'll be dressed up all in blue, with the ocean in our arms.
Say my name and every color illuminates.
Always should be someone you really love...
Tell me love, will we ever know ourselves?
You hold, it in your hands, true romance.
I found a place, to make a stand, true romance.

... These are some beautiful images that reflect my mood these autumn days, and also what I feel when I listen to some of my favorite songs in the following great mixtape. All the quotes from above are from  songs included in it, that I love: "Cast Away" by Strange Talk, "Love Is All I Got" by Feed Me & Crystal Fighters, "Take My Pain Away" by Moullinex, "Power" by Pompeya, "Spectrum" by  Florence + The Machine, "Girls & Boys" by Blur and "True Romance" by Citizens! The mixtape also includes great songs by Jupiter, Yuksek, Peter & The Magician, Daft Punk, and many more. Give it a listen!
